On Sunday February 23, 2014 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM join us for this illustrated lecture on Sergeant Horatio J. Homer.
This lecture is presented by Margaret R. Sullivan, the Records Manager and Archivist of the Boston Police Department.
New research has identified Sgt. Homer as Boston’s first African American police officer. Appointed in 1878 and promoted to Sergeant in 1895, Homer served with distinction for more than 40 years. A lover of music and poetry, Sgt. Homer was a political activist and a quiet leader of a long forgotten cohort of 19th century African American Boston officers.
This program is made possible by the Friends of the Woburn Public Library, and no registration is necessary.
