Circulation Information

Borrowing Items

Present your Minuteman Library Network library card to borrow items from the Woburn Public Library. Please note: The following are Woburn Public Library’s policies, other Minuteman libraries have their own policies.

Library Cards

Any Massachusetts resident can become a member of the Minuteman Library Network. The MLN card you receive at the Woburn Public Library may be used in over 40 other MLN Libraries. Children must be at least 4 years old and be able to write his or her own full name. Children under 12 require a signature of parent or guardian.

To obtain a library card please bring identification with your name and current address. Library cards are free; however, if your card is lost, there is a $2.00 replacement fee. Lost library cards should be reported immediately.

You are responsible for all materials borrowed on your card until you report it lost or stolen. Please remember to bring your library card with you when you visit. Library accounts are confidential. We cannot discuss details of your account over the telephone or share that information with members of your family

PIN (Personal Identification Number)

A PIN allows you to access your account online to determine what items are currently checked out, renew items, check for fines owed, and review your reserve list. Applying for a PIN is easy and can be done in person at the Circulation Desk or through the My Account feature, How to Get a PIN on the Minuteman home page. PINs will not be issued over the telephone nor via email because we will need to see your ID

Loan Periods, Limits & Fines


You may take up to 7  DVDs for 1 week.  Some DVDs such as Television series may circulate for 2 weeks.   DVDs may be renewed once.  There is a $1.00 per day fine for each overdue  DVD.

Audio Tapes and CDs

You may take Audio Tapes or CDs for 3 weeks, Audio Tapes and CDs may be renewed twice. There is a $.05 per day fine for each overdue Audio Tape or CD.

New Fiction

There is no limit on New Fiction, which may be borrowed for 2 weeks; New Fiction may not be renewed. There is a $.10 per day fine for each overdue New Fiction item.


There is no limit on regular Fiction items, which may be borrowed for 3 weeks. Fiction may be renewed twice. There is a $.05 per day fine for each overdue Fiction item.

Non-Fiction Books

You may take up to 3 books per subject (1 book per subject in the children’s room), which may be borrowed for 3 weeks; Non-Fiction Books may be renewed twice. There is a $.05 per day fine for each overdue Non-Fiction Book.


You may borrow up to 5 Magazines for 2 weeks, Magazines can not be renewed. There is a $.05 per day fine for each overdue Magazine.

Virtual Catalog Items and other Interlibrary Loan Items

There is no current limit on Virtual Catalog Items, which circulate for 28 days. There is no current limit on other Interlibrary Loan Items, which circulate for 14 days. Virtual Catalog Items and other Interlibrary Loan Items can not be renewed. The is a $2.00 per day fine for each overdue Virtual Catalog Items and other Interlibrary Loan Items.


To renew items you have checked out, you may call the Woburn Public Library’s circulation desk at 781-933-0148. For Children’s items you may call the Children’s Room at 781-937-0405. Please have the items you want renewed with you and also have your library card number handy. You may also renew items online while logged into the catalog under “My Account”.


You may reserve library materials in person, by phone or through the online catalog. When the items you request come in, we will notify you by telephone or email. To receive email notification, stop by the circulation desk and we’ll set that up. Items not available through Woburn Public Library or any Minuteman Network library may be requested through Interlibrary Loan. Patrons may place interlibrary loan requests online, using the Virtual Catalog or  by placing a written request with a librarian.


All borrowed items may be returned to the circulation desks in the Library. There is a book drop located near the back entrance. There is a book drop located at the end of the front walkway by Abbot St. Only BOOKS should be returned in the two outside book drops. There is a $2.00 per item charge for any Magazine, Video, DVD, CD, or Audio Book returned in a book drop.

To avoid damaging library property, do not attempt to jam items into the book drop or leave items outside it.  If returned items are found outside the box or are jammed into an already full book drop, you will be fined for those items. No items should ever be placed in an overly full book drop.

Please note:

It is Minuteman’s policy to accept all materials returning to other member libraries. However, our delivery system is now overwhelmed with items checked out at one library, but returned to another. If it would be convenient, please return your materials to the library where you checked them out.

Lost Material

If a library item is lost or damaged, patrons are required to pay the full replacement cost of the item, plus a processing fee. In kind replacements are not accepted. If a lost item is paid for and then found by the patron, within 30 days only, a refund may be made. The receipt should be kept for that reason, as refunds will not be issued without a receipt.
